A 43-year-old man, Ogundele Adeyemi, on Tuesday appeared before an Osogbo Senior Magistrates’ Court on a one-count charge of performing a sexual act on a six-year-old girl.
The police prosecutor, Insp. Wilson Mireti, told the court that the accused committed the offence on December 10 at about 4p.m at Otan Ile in Obokun Local Government Area of Osun State, the News Agency of Nigeria reports.
Mireti said the accused lured the minor into his room and performed a sexual act on her by dipping his finger into her private part.
He said the offence was contrary to and punishable under section 222 of the Criminal Code Cap 34 Volume 11 of Osun, 2003.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge and his counsel, Mr. Sunday Adefarati, applied for his bail.
Senior Magistrate Olusola Aluko granted the accused bail in the sum of N100,000 and two sureties in like sum.
Aluko directed that the sureties must reside within the court’s jurisdiction, swear to affidavit of means and provide evidence of tax payment as well as two passport photographs.
The case was adjourned till January 30, 2013 for mention.
In another development, a 37-year-old recharge card dealer, Amola Adejinmi, was also on Tuesday arraigned before the court on a charge of fraud.
The prosecutor, Insp. Isiaka Ajadi, alleged that the accused sometime in August at Fakunle area in Osogbo committed the offence.
Ajadi said the accused obtained recharge cards worth N790,000 from one Kolawole Kareem with the promise of remitting the proceeds from the sale into his account.
He said the accused escaped with the proceeds and eventually converted the money to his personal use.
The offence, he said, contravened sections 419, 383 and 390(9) of the Criminal Code Cap 34 Volume 11 of Osun, 2003.
The accused pleaded not guilty to the charge when it was read out to him and his counsel, Mr Nicolas Babatunde, orally applied for his bail.
Aluko granted the accused bail in the sum of N500,000 and two sureties in like sum.
He directed that the sureties must reside within the court’s jurisdiction, swear to affidavit of means and provide evidence of tax payment and two passport photographs to the court.
Aluko adjourned the case till January 4, 2013 for hearing.
