I am using this medium to urge the democratically elected local government chairmen across the country to air their views on the position of the Governors’ Forum on local government autonomy in the ongoing constitution amendment. It is a conventional belief in Nigeria that the elected LG chairmen are being shortchanged and federal allocations meant for them are being hijacked by governors in their states. As a result of this, the local government, closest government to the people, has become impoverished. Now, this is the time for the local government chairmen’s forum as well as well-meaningful Nigerians to rise against the anti-people position of governors in order to have a total third-tier government autonomy with separate accounts.
