Lagos State Government on Friday gave the Super Eagles N54m  for winning the Africa Cup of Nations in South Africa.

Governor Babatunde Fashola, who hosted the team at Lagos House, Ikeja,  also said the  Nigeria Football Supporters’ Club would get N4.5m for cheering the team to victory.

The breakdown of the of the money showed that  coach Stephen Keshi  got  N2.5m, his assistant, Daniel Amokachi, got N2m, while the captain of the team,  Joseph Yobo, got  N1.5m.

Other  assistant coaches got N1.5m each, while the players  received N1m each.

The governor gave the team N500, 000 for each of the 11  goals scored at the  tournament and N15m  to the backroom staff of the team.

Fashola called on Nigerians to develop the Nigerian spirit in them, saying if they work hard to build and provide structures, Nigeria would be the team to beat in Africa and the world.

The governor said the idea of some  officials of the NFF going into the dressing room to talk the team during halftime was not acceptable.

Fashola said, “Everybody in Nigeria is a football expert, let us respect those who we employ to do the job. If you think they cannot do it, change them.

“And I think the practice where some people will come to the dressing room the halftime should stop. That is the coach’s domain. The 15 minutes he has within the game must be judiciously used. I think the NFF should make the necessary correction.”

Fashola urged the team to brace for other challenges, saying that they must plan in order to attain success.

He recommended N1m as monthly salary for the home-based players, saying they don’t have the same opportunity like their counterparts who play for  foreign clubs.
