Power drunk African leaders reputable for staying in power whether they are physically fit or not should better learn from Pope Benedict XVI’s decision to resign on health ground.
We know how many African leaders that would have perhaps lived today to contribute meaningfully to African development but for their preference to die on the throne instead of relinquishing power to attend to their failing health conditions. That is indeed unfortunate. Public office holders are enjoined to jettison the do-or-die mentality while in power. After all, the relevance of historical antecedents centres on the good lessons we learn from them.
