A major landslide weekend hit Okoloba community of Kolokuma/Opokuma local government area of Bayelsa State, destroying over eight houses including the home of a 69 year old ex-serviceman.
Most indigenes of the community led by the Paramount Ruler,Chief Orumobiri Woyergikuro, attributed the landslide to the refusal of the management of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) to compel the commencement of work on the Shore Protection Work awarded the Dredging Atlantic Company in 2008.
Reports claimed the landslide hit the community at about 6am on Saturday with most indigenes on the bed. Those affected said that the early morning farm work which the resident went for saved many victims from being buried alive by the landslide.
