Exercise is the physical exertion of the body. It is making the body do a physical activity which allows for a healthy living both physically and mentally. Exercise helps to maintain and enhance your physical fitness and general health.
People’s reasons for engaging in exercises are different based on personal decisions. Some of which are for general body fitness, strengthening muscles, optimising the cardiovascular system, practising specific athletic skills, controlling body weight and also to socialise. The benefits of exercises are no doubt, numerous.
However, too much of anything has its negative effects. The same is applicable for exercises — too much may hurt the body and your health.
When you engage in too much exercises, your body may begin to respond negatively, these effects may be physical or psychological. Ironically, exercises that are meant to strengthen your muscles could lead to fatigue. You experience fatigue when the energy in the body has been used up. This is simply a state of health whereby a person experiences insufficient energy due to low level or absence of calories in the body system. As a result, tiredness, dizziness, drowsiness and sleepiness occur.
Although exercise helps to cut off unnecessary body fat, but when it becomes too much, the result is bad. The body has essential fat used for regulating heat in body temperature and absorbing shock. It is five percent for men and 12 percent for women. Without fat, abnormal stress will be placed on the joints and bones, therefore increasing the risk of injury.
Illness could also occur when you lack enough calories, you will weaken the immune system and increase your chances of contracting illness. With a weakened immune system, you are more likely to get sick frequently.
You could also suffer from increased resting heart rate. Too much exercise could result in too much heart resting – it increases by more than five beats!
In addition to these, know that you can experience the following symptoms when you are over-exercise: Constant bodyweight loss, decreased or loss of appetite, excessively thirst and lack of perspiration.
The good news is that you can prevent over-exercising.
Have you fallen into the trap already? Dont worry, just follow a training schedule and take these two measures: Recognise that you are suffering from over-exercise and limit training or take a break; You are meant to enjoy yourself at the gym and not be stressed!
