Civil rights lawyer, Mr. Bamidele Aturu, on Thursday, wrote the Attorney-General of the Federation, Mohammed Adoke, notifying him of a subsisting judgment declaring deregulation of the oil sector as unconstitutional.
Aturu had on October 13, 2009, instituted the suit on which Justice Adamu Bello of the Federal High Court, Abuja, delivered judgment on Tuesday.
The judge, in her judgment, declared, among other others, that the Federal Government is bound by law to regulate the downstream sector by fixing prices at which petroleum products must be sold in the country.
In his letter dated March 21, 2013, Aturu urged the AGF to inform another judge of the Federal High Court, Abuja presiding over another suit seeking the removal of subsidy on fuel, the judgment which had already been delivered on the subsidy issue.
In a statement accompanying the letter, Aturu said he had applied to join in the pending suit “to prevent any embarrassing and conflicting decisions”.
