However, the said article needs more light. The Oxford Advanced Learners dictionary describes religiosity as the state of being religious or too religious. The word religious is also defined as being connected with religion. The godliness canvassed by Onwuka cannot be separated from true religion. Down play religion and godliness ceases to thrive. Godliness is also defined as living a moral life based on religious principles. The practice of these principles leads to godliness. The religion that does not produce godliness is a false one. Too much of the true God is not the problem. The problem is godlessness. Godlessness is the tree, while its branches are corruption, terrorism, armed robbery, kidnapping, piracy etc.
Everyone tidying his or her corner first includes everyone with a tidying to be done without waiting for another person to set d ball rolling. The burden is even more on leaders who must live by example to be able to enforce compliance with the laws governing the behaviour of society. The late Gen. Murtala Muhammed set this example before he was cut down by reactionary forces. The way forward? I read about a great and gifted scientist, an inventor who discovered the principles of direct electrical current, who towards the end of his life was asked what field of scientific research offered the greatest promise in the future: “Prayer, he replied. Find out about prayer”. What good is the technology anyway, if it brings no one peace? Let us lay hold of the axe and not rest until the tree (godlessness) feeding its evil branches is brought down through prayers.
