MultiChoice Nigeria, a provider of premium pay entertainment, has added 43 new resource centres to existing 201 locations to bring the number of its educational resource centres to 244 in 24 states across the federation.

The development was disclosed during the inauguration of 11 new MultiChoice resource centres in Benue State, a statement from the firm on Thursday indicated.

The unveiling in Benue completed the schedule for the Phase Eight of the MRC project.

According to the firm, beneficiaries of the audio-visual learning aid in Benue State are Government College, Makurdi; Government Model Secondary School, Makurdi; Government Girls Secondary School, Makurdi; St. Gabriel Secondary School, Makurdi; and Special Science Senior Secondary School, Makurdi.

Others are Tilley Gyado College, Makurdi; Government Secondary School (North Bank), Makurdi; NKST Secondary School, Makurdi; Mt. Carmel College, Makurdi; Community Secondary School, Makurdi and Methodist High School, Igumale.

The General Manager, Trade and Distribution, MultiChoice Nigeria, Mr. Akin Salu, who represented the Managing Director, MultiChoice Nigeria, Mr. John Ugbe, at the ceremony, said, “The launch of MultiChoice Resource Centres in Benue is happening almost 10 years after the inaugural launch of the project in Abuja in 2004 to commemorate what was then MultiChoice’s 10th anniversary in Nigeria.

“It is befitting that we are launching another set of resource centres in Makurdi, Benue State, to mark MultiChoice’s 20th anniversary in the country. The resource centre initiative is our corporate social investment project that has grown from only four centres at inception to 242 schools in 24 states of the federation.”

Salu stressed MultiChoice’s strong conviction that the technological, economic, social and political advancement of any country had a direct correlation with its level of educational development and that the future of a country was intrinsically tied to the quality of education that the youths were exposed to.

This, he added, was the belief that underpinned the company’s rollout of the audio-visual learning aid across the country.

He further said MultiChoice planned to have the resource centres in all the states of the federation.

The Managing Director, Innovative Technology Literacy Services Limited (the project managers for the MultiChoice Resource Centre projects), Mrs. Ronke Bello, described Benue State as a lucky beneficiary of the MRC project.

She said, “The MultiChoice resource centre is designed to grant beneficiary schools access to the special MultiChoice Education Bouquet with the aim of integrating the programmes into their curriculum to further enhance the teaching and learning processes in the classrooms.”
