The Research and Collation Committee of PEARL Awards Nigeria has commenced the collation and computation of data for the selection of winners for this year’s annual Performance, Earnings and Return Leadership Awards.

The Secretary, Board of Governors of the group, Mr. Lekan Adekoya, said the criteria for the selection of the winning companies would still be based on the globally acceptable parameters, which included turnover growth, return on equity, earnings yield, dividend growth, and net asset ratio among others.

In a statement on Thursday, Adekoya said that the data being used for the selection of winners were derived from the current audited annual reports of quoted companies listed on the floor of the Nigerian Stock Exchange and trading prices sourced from the daily official list of the NSE.

He said, “The selection process, which has been highly scientific and objective with verifiable methodology that has over the past 17 years been applauded by all stakeholders, culminated in the endorsement of the awards in 2003 by the Securities & Exchange Commission.”

The PEARL Awards research and collation committee, which comprises seasoned analysts, is expected to submit its report to the technical committee of the board, headed by a former Director-General, Securities & Exchange Commission, Mr. Wole Adetunji,  for comprehensive review and endorsement while the enlarged board will consider and ratify the report after due consideration.

He also stated that the criteria and methodology as well as the facts and figures for the selection of winners were usually published in the Awards Annual Journal (The Nigerian Stock Market Annual) presented publicly at each year’s awards event.

“The yearly publication contained contemporary capital market issues and well researched articles on the economy, which were put together by seasoned capital market and financial experts in the country,” he added.
