Previous Heads of Government found it too tempting to resist the allure of second term or tenure elongation. Even where they had performed woefully. All machinery of the state was deployed to secure such second term and on an uneven playing field. Since it is beyond the realm of speculation that Jonathan will seek second term, I wish to offer some useful pieces of advice. He requires some knowledge of Nigerian history as a guide! Can he score himself above average grade in performance ratio currently? Will he secure a PDP ticket freely given? Can opponents be assured of a free and fair, rancour-free contest? To what extent has he fulfilled his electoral promises? Is the President justified in inflicting more pains on Nigerians having failed to deliver on his electoral promises?
