Everton out to end Anfield hoodoo

Everton will look to end their 13-year spell without winning at Anfield when they visit city rivals Liverpool for a Premier League clash on Sunday.

The last time the Toffees defeated their neighbours away from home was back in 1999 when Kevin Campbell’s solitary strike earned them a 1-0 win.

This match will also be crucial in the battle for log positions with Everton sitting in 6th place with 59 points, five more than Liverpool who are directly below them.

Despite going into this clash without their top striker Luis Suarez, who is currently serving a 10-match ban, the Reds will go into this clash with a spring in their step following their 6-0 demolition of Newcastle United last weekend.

However, David Moyes’ side have proved to be a tough nut to crack this season and head into this encounter on the back of a hard-fought 1-0 win over Fulham.

Leon Osman was amongst the scorers earlier this season when his side came back from being two goals down to force a 2-2 draw and he says he would like to score another derby goal.

“Scoring would be great,” he said. “I’d be delighted if I could get another goal, especially at Anfield, but the points are more important to us.

“It’s a long time since we’ve gone over there and come back with three points. It’s a place we need to go to and win.

“We’ve shown we can win at Goodison Park, but we want to go there and do the same.

“It’s a game like any other. We’ll go there full of the confidence that we’ve got this year.

“We’re five points above them at the minute and a win would certainly be great for us but we’re still on the coat-tails of the teams above us and we’re trying to win for that reason as well.”
