Oshiomhole proposes N150bn budget for 2013

Edo State Governor, Mr. Adams Oshiomhole, on Thursday presented to the state House of Assembly a budget proposal of N150.05bn for the 2013 fiscal year.

The proposed budget comprises N87.4bn or 60 per cent of for capital expenditure, and N62.2bn for recurrent expenditure.

Presenting the budget tagged, “Taking Edo State to the next level,” Oshiomhole said the 2013 fiscal plan sought to consolidate on the achievements of the last four years.

He said the 2013 budget proposal was not only targeted at the completion of ongoing infrastructural projects, but also aimed at accelerating the pace of economic growth and development in the state.

He said, “We are resolutely committed to expanding the conducive environment already created for economic development and above all, the empowerment of the citizenry.

“The 2013 budget proposal is to complete all ongoing infrastructural projects, prioritise technical education, and broaden skills acquisition with emphasis on middle-level-technology.”

Other objectives of the proposal, according to the governor, are to improve efficiency of internally generated revenue administration; focus on poverty eradication measures aimed at improving employment, wealth creation and youth empowerment.

Others include a focus on measures to grow the economy of the state, with particular reference to agriculture and attraction of local and foreign investment and capacity building in the public service.
