Frozen in mediocrity

Ayo Olukotun’s article titled, Frozen in mediocrity: A nation’s dithering work ethics, emphasised the link between mediocrity at the typical Nigerian workplace and the unwillingness to work long hours. He should have stressed the point that mediocrity in the Nigerian sphere has also to do (a lot) with the poor quality of work output rather than the length of a day’s work whether in the public or private sector. Indeed, there are benefits in working long hours, but if we are prudent with the average eight work hours per day in implementing policies, executing projects, conducting our assignments in a timely and quality-assured manner etc, I am sure our communities and country will be better for it.
