The Group Managing Director of UAC of Nigeria Plc, Larry Ettah, says sailing has a bright future in Nigeria because of the level of enthusiasm and interest generated by the annual UAC Trophy Race.

At this year’s edition of the sailing competition held at the Lagos Yacht Club last weekend, Ettah assured that his company would continue to support the sport as part of its efforts to develop the game in Nigeria.

“The inherent values of the game which are capable of aiding better quality of life have made it imperative for us to continue to support sailing. Ours is an organisation that projects activities that add values to life. The championship will continue to have our backing,” Ettah said commending the participants who turned out for the championship.

Third in the series, the UAC Trophy Race has evolved into a foremost recreational sailing championship in the country and become a converging point for the best yachtsmen who compete for laurels in three different categories – Hobie, Lightning and Mixed Monohull.

After hours of rigorous sailing exercise, Lloyd Crisp emerged winner in the Hobie category. Eder Avy came second, while Hugh Thorley came third. Lightning category produced Graham Gips as champion, Mike Barnes was second, while Helmut Braun came third.
